Kamilo Nui is home to Leolani, a brand new development area housing 64 large executive style homes build throughout 2003 and 2004. All of these houses are fully equipped with modern necessities, such as central air conditioning, spacious bathrooms and kitchens sporting the best appliances you will ever see. Five of the homes were resold in 2008 with the most expensive going under the hammer for $1,475,000.
Upper Kamilo Nui is an agricultural zone leased by farmers, some of whom have operated nurseries and farms in the region for over 40 years. These farmers predominantly came from the bottom of valley after it was converted, as they were offered 55 year leases to last until 2025 – although in 2005 a developer found an agreement to buy the entire 87 acres, a zoning change may soon be taking place.
However, as many residents strongly oppose housing in the valley proper, they would be vocal opponents of both a plan to amend the Sustainable Communities Plan and to zoning changes. Ultimately this will be left up to the farmers, who rightly so, have the final say their future.
