Pearl City is located in the city and county of Honolulu on the island of Oahu in the district of Ewa.  It is bordered by Aiea to the east and Waipahu to west.  Pearl City is five square miles across the coast on the shoreline facing Pearl Harbor.

The early Hawaiians enjoyed the bountifulness of the seafood that exists in the area.  When westerners settled in the area they also enjoyed the amount of oysters and the pearls contained within them.  This helped King Kamehameha I earn money in the pearl trade to help in uniting the islands into a single community.

Pearl City was also home to cattle agriculture, and was the area of Hawaii that led the rest into the booming sugar industry.  This was its primary source of income until WWII when the industry was shut down.  This made the area refocus its attention on refining areas for tourism.

Living in Pearl City

Pearl City has a population of 30,976 people living in a mixture of Hawaiian culture and city living.  There are currently 8,921 households.  Most places have a breathtaking view of the sapphire-blue Pacific.

The area sits 95 feet above sea level so it is a prime area for mountainside.  In a great result the weather is tropical year round.  People can enjoy the sunny and cool weather while living by the ocean side.

Pearl City is home to the busiest business port in Oahu; therefore, it experiences high rates of tourism along with a booming trade industry.  Many of the homes that are currently for sale in the area were built in the 1970s and 1980s.  Pearl City is a great location to live outside of Honolulu because the houses are less expensive and the actual commute to downtown does not take very long.

Activities in Pearl City

Choosing Pearl City

People choose Pearl City because they can get a good mix of both the city and neighborhood life.  They can enjoy beautiful scenery that most people would kill to wake up to every morning and have the luxury of having town life in such a close proximity.  Pearl City has a stable if not growing economy due to its level of tourism, but it still maintains less expensive homes compared to the rest of Hawaii.  Anyone looking to live in a gorgeous laid back environment with city life just down the road should think about relocating to Pearl City.
