What to Look for When Buying a Home

We know that a house is defined as a physical structure wherein one lives, such as an apartment, a condo, a farm, or one that is surrounded by a white picket fence. Yet, what makes a house a home, and how do you go on finding one that is suitable for you? Although each person has their own individual dream home in mind, there are certain things you need to take into consideration.

First of all, you have to your budget and your capacity to pay the mortgage or rent. We have day-to-day expenses, such as food, clothing and utility bills; not to mention the furniture and trimmings that come with getting a home.

The second thing to consider is the location. Do you want to live in the city or in the rural area? What will be your means of transportation? Do you have your own car? Or will you be taking the train? Is the location accessible to the grocery, department stores, the park, and the hospital? How far it is from you childrenís school or your workplace? It is best to find a place that will only be within a 15 to 20 minute radius from all these areas and make sure that the neighborhood is also safe. Believe it or not, your neighbors actually play a big role in making your house a home.

Next is the size of your house. You might want one that has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, but this would be impractical if you live alone. Remember, it is you after all who is going to have to go around the house on weekends, cleaning and maintaining the place. On the other hand, if you had a family of 4 or more, then this should be fine. One with a big yard would be a great place to have barbecues and family gatherings. The size of the house will also determine your storage and closet space. And whether it is a small house or a mansion, take into consideration the lighting of the house and windows.

The last to consider is your lifestyle. If you are someone who is always on the go and does not want the hassle of too much maintenance, then a simple and more modern designed house would be more fitting, such as tiled floors, concrete, or brick walling. After all, these are easier to maintain. On the other hand, if you have help and have more time, the classic and Mediterranean look should be more to your taste. You might also want to look at the moldings and interior design, as it can really help in making the home look more beautiful.

There may be other things that you can probably think of to add to this list, but follow these basics and you will definitely be a few steps closer to your dream home.
