The Makaha Valley Towers is located on Oahu, and is considered one of the most prestigious condo complexes to live at, mainly because for the money that you are spending you get an amazing home that you can use if you move to Hawaii, or just go on vacation. Makaha is located on the western side of Oahu, and is considered a beautifully stunning small town. However, because it is so small and is located just a few miles beyond the Ko'olina resorts, rarely do tourists travel out to the small town in order to see the sights, and they are missing out on a huge adventure. Typically, those who do go on a tour whether they ride a bus or take a rental car are actually circling the town as they take the Farrington Highway.
Condos in Makaha that Were Built by Notorious Architects
William Pereira who dies in 1985 was considered a genius when it came to architecture. Some of his buildings include the Disneyland Hotel, Convention Center in San Francisco, and the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco. Overall he helped design over 300 buildings, malls, airports, and so on. However, the masterpiece that most people are focused on when they visit Hawaii is the Makaha Valley Towers.
The Makaha Valley Towers include one and two bedroom condos, as well as studios to choose from. Overall there are 586 accommodations for people to take part in. The condo is situated on 14 acres of land that includes a pool and golf resort. In addition, each apartment has an amazing view, some have the Pacific Ocean, while other apartments get the mountains as there view each and every morning. Security wise, the Makaha Valley Towers are safe. There are 24 hour security guards that are on duty, they make sure that everyone who is on the property belongs there, or has been invited by someone who lives there. For those that think this would be a great getaway home to invest in, then you can expect the price range of these condos to be in the $100,000s.
Makaha was chosen as the location for Pereira's design simply because it was a beautiful setting and was remote. Though Waikiki gets numerous tourists, Makaha does not, which was a huge reason why the location was chosen. Around the same time that Makaha Valley Towers were getting ready to be built, Maui and Kauai were also getting ready to build their own resorts. On the west side of Maui, Kannapolis was the first resort to be built, followed by Wailea, Kapalua, then finally Kihei resorts. These resorts were built on the dry leeward side of the islands, unlike the Big Island that developed the coast of Kona. The main reason for choosing the leeward side of the islands is because these sides do not get as much rain or wing and are known to have the most beautiful sunsets that can be found anywhere.
Kauai island, during the 1970's built the Princeville Resort, this resort is still considered to be one of the most luxurious and awesome resorts that can be found anywhere. As these resorts became more common on the islands, the attention was diverted from Makaha Valley Towers. Because they were receiving less attention, the prices for the condos became to stall. Those who were looking for places to stay were deciding whether they want the amenities that Waikiki had to offer, or just wanted peace and relaxation that other resorts gave. However, these people did not know that they could have it all with Makaha Valley Towers, since it is in a relatively calm hour, however, a short hour drive away you will find tons of excitement.
Makaha Has a Bad Reputation that is Undeserving
Those who have researched prosperities and talked with real estate agents in the area, have most likely been told to look elsewhere for a home than deciding on Makaha. Even though Makaha offers some of the best prices and accommodations that other places simply cannot offer. Because of this, the reputation of Makaha has spread like wild fire, mostly thanks to the Realtors, who do drive the market. The reason that real estate agents give for avoiding Makaha are:
*Too many homeless are on the leeward side of the coast
*Waianae, the neighboring city
*The area has lower income people in it
*The natives of the area do not like white people
*High drugs and crime rate
However, all of these reasons seem to have been blown out of proportion in recent years, and the majority of the problems that they list, can be found anywhere that you go.
The Homeless in Hawaii
There are those that are considering homeless, living in Hawaii. However, before anyone starts to think of the area as being poor or beneath you, they should consider the fact that many people prefer the lifestyle of living homeless instead of living as others expect you to. The climate in Hawaii, is the main reason why many of these people prefer to live this way. However, according to the statistics from January of 2010, there were 410 homeless living in the Waianae coast. Total, there were 701 homeless people in the greater Honolulu area.
The Reputation of Waianae
Waianae is located between the Makaha Valley Towers and the resorts located in Ko'olina. Most of the communities are much similar to those areas found on the north shore of Kappa and Oahu, which are usually those communities that the real estate agents do not criticize nor not recommend to those wanting to live in the area. The income levels found in the Waianae area are lower than other Hawaiian homesteads, however, this does not mean that the area is not well-kept. They also offer all of the spirit that most areas of Hawaii offers.
Those who own a condo in the Makaha Valley Towers are usually retirees that are from the United States and other areas of the world. Those who are considered wealthy have no problems with living in close quarters with those who are considered lower income residents. Basically, all in all, there are all kinds of people that live in the Waianae area.
However, despite this, Waianae still struggles to find the respect that it deserves. The area on the east side, Kahala, is regarded as the most elite area to go. In fact, it is actually regarded as the Beverly Hills area of the Oahu area. One main question that people have is what is the crime rate of the two areas when they are compared? The Makaha and Waianae area had around 4.152 crimes, while Kahala had 4.535 crimes in 2009.
Searching for Vacation Homes in Hawaii
The usual saying that people hear when people are talking about the west side that includes the Waianae and Makaha area is that you should not venture to that part of the island. However, after this saying was heard over and over again by one Waikiki resident, they decided to visit and find out what exactly was so awful about this area. They were surprised at what they found. They say condos that were beachfront pieces of properties that were selling for around $30,000. In addition, they saw that the Makaha Valley Towers offered ocean views and had a pool for residents to enjoy. By 2010, the prices for these condos have risen to around $75,000. However, when you look at what you get, then you know that you are getting a great deal for a vacation home in Hawaii. Though there are many other complexes in the area, none of them hold the value and beauty as the Makaha Valley Towers complex. The person who visited the area, soon bought a condo of their own and was thrilled to have found a diamond in the ruff.
