Parks and Gardens You Can Visit While in Honolulu

In Honolulu, there are a large number of parks and gardens. These parks allow you to get away from the crowds in other popular tourist attractions. Some of the popular parks in Honolulu include Foster Botanical Gardens, Contemporary Museum Gardens, Iolani Palace Grounds, Kapiolani Beach Park and Liliuokalani Botanical Garden. Foster Botanical Gardens is a 12.5-acre garden. Most of the trees in the botanical garden are aged above 150 years old. There are a large variety of tropical plants in garden. It offers a tranquil atmosphere in the heat of the Hawaiian summer. The Foster Botanical Garden is open from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The Contemporary Museum Gardens is an Asian style garden that features a variety of plants, flowers, bushes and trees. From the Contemporary Museum Gardens, you can get a good view of Diamond Head. There is a café where you can buy food and drinks at the park. The Iolani Palace Grounds is situated in the middle of Honolulu. It used to be the main seat for the Hawaii state government. Several European furnitures that date back to the 19th century can be found in Iolani Palace Grounds. If you want, you can visit the grounds to explore the domed pavilion. The dome pavilion in the garden is used as a bandstand when the Royal Hawaiian Band is performing.

Kapiolani Regional Park is located a little further up from the Kuhio Beach Park. The park named is derived from the name of Queen Kapiolani. Before it became a park, it was a swampland. Since it is not suitable to be used for any project development, the authority decided to convert it into a park. The park includes a zoo that houses all kinds of animals. There are a number of tennis courts and basketball courts in the park. Apart from the tennis and basketball courts, you will find other fields such as baseball, rugby and soccer fields. The two-mile circumference course is used as jogging trails for the joggers. The Honolulu Marathon is often held at Kapiolani Regional Park.

Liliuokalani Botanical Garden is situated north to the Foster Botanical Garden. The garden covers an area of 7.5 acre. The land in the Liliuokalani Botanical Garden used to belong to Queen Liliuokalani. Queen Liliuokalani is the last monarch in Hawaii. She gave the land to Honolulu so that everyone can enjoy its flora and fauna.
