Makaha, a community on the Oahu's Waianae Coast, is just as peaceful and tranquil as the rest of the communities located around Waianae. With its gorgeous scenery, including the famous mountain range for which Waianae is known, and the beautiful coast, Waianae provides plenty to see as well as a bustling agricultural center, where livestock, flowers, and veggies are grown in abundance.

Makaha Beach Park is situated on the west side of the Oahu Island. The beach is a perfect spot for carrying out all kinds of ocean activities including body boarding, surfing and etc. You should be careful of bad weather such as shore breaks and strong currents in the winter months. The surfing wave can reach up to 15 feet – 30 feet during winter. In winter, strong backwashes will be created. Besides, the shore break and undertow will also form at the beach. As a result, the beach will very dangerous during this time. You will notice surfboards floating on the ocean. In the summer months, the water is calm. You should take note of the signs that are posted at the Makaha Beach. If you want to learn about the ocean conditions, you can ask the lifeguard. People who want to swim should go to the middle of the ocean. This is because the middle of the beach is free from reef.

There are many sharp reefs at the right side of the beach. The right side of the beach is located nearby to the hotel. Beginning surfer should not surf at the right side of the beach. Makaha beach is situated on the dry part of Oahu. The climate at Makaha Beach is quite hot and dry. If you want to come to Makaha Beach, you should bring water and sunscreen. You and your children should drink enough water before arriving at the Makaha Beach so that you won’t be dehydrated. You can bring a beach umbrella to protect yourself from the sun. You can apply an ultraviolet lotion that has SPF of 15. You should reapply the sun lotion every 2 hours. The beach is never crowded with too many people.  During the weekends, the local people like to come to the beach to relax. A number of facilities can be found at the beach including picnic tables, restrooms and showers.

 

If you are coming from Waikiki, you should take the Ala Wai Boulevard. While traveling on the Ala Wai Boulevard, you can turn into the Kalakaua Avenue. After that, you need to turn into PIikoi St. and Lunalilo St. If you continue traveling at Farrington Highway, you should reach the Makaha town. If you don’t want to travel by car, you can take the city bus. The city bus departs from the Ala Moana Shopping Center at Honolulu.
