Initially, Ewa District was a plantation area, and the historical buildings as well the original town center here are looked after and preserved to ensure they will still be here for future generations to enjoy. More recently, some neighborhoods have been established nearer the the entrance of the area. In 1988 the Ewa Gentry subdivision started construction and development as a single family dwelling area, however it will some day boast 8,000 or more homes designed for families of all different shapes, sizes and incomes.
Palm Court and Palm Villa are also located nearby, with both subdivisions housing townhouses with green courtyards and others, without these courtyards, featuring their own decks. All of the townhouses have individual parking stalls, and the Arbors subdivision which features slightly larger townhouses, includes full garages, as well as a recreational center and a swimming pool shared between the residents. The Sunrise subdivision is the grandest, with three story condominiums available at comparatively modest prices.
The majority of homes within the Ewa District are grouped closely together around shared playgrounds and courtyards, with some sharing swimming pools, with most of the single family houses being incorporated in the late 1980s. Some of the houses here were granted city sponsorship, allowing buyers to get the homes below their market price tags.
