Search Makakilo Real Estate

The hillside community of the Makakilo District was formed in the beginning of the 1960s and as of 2008 had over 3,500 homes and townhouses, with the higher hillside still continuing with development in the area. Amongst the more recently formed subdivisions are the Westview and Royal Ridge - accommodating townhouses and single family homes, respectively. The locals here enjoy fabulous and unmatched views of the Pacific Ocean, while those further east can look down upon the Diamond Head crater.

Information on Makakilo in Ewa

Makakilo is a residential community situated in the Ewa District. In the Hawaiian language, makekilo refers to observing eyes. It is called observing eyes because it is situated about 1000 foot above the land. Makakilo is in the sunny southwestern shore of Oahu. It is situated on the south side of the Waianae Mountains. The town has a population of 13,000 people. It has more than 3,800 households and 3,200 families. 

The population density in Makakilo is 4,000 people per square mile. The median income of the household in Makakilo is about $66,000. Males earn higher than females in Makakilo. The average income of a male is $40,000 while the average income of a female is $31,000 per year. There are many different races of people living in Makakilo including Asian, White, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian, Black and American. Most of the people that live in the town are Asian. People with two or more races constitute the second largest population in Makakilo. The Native Hawaiian constitutes about 8.5% of the population.  There is also a considerable number of Black and American living in Makakilo. 

Makakilo is growing to become more developed. Its location is near to many recreational sites such as Barber’s Point and Kamokila Park. You can carry out various types of recreational activities at the beach including surfing, snorkeling, and swimming. There are 7 golf courses located within 15 miles of Makakilo. The Makakilo Shopping Center can be found nearby to Makakilo. If you travel to the south, you will come to the city of Kapolei. Kapolei is a fast growing community. Many shops and restaurants can be found in Kapolei. There are several gift shops offering souvenirs for customers. The Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park is also located at Makakilo. These amenities are situated within a few minutes from the leeward side. Most of the homes are built in front of the ocean. If you buy a house in Makakilo, you will be able to enjoy the ocean and mountain views. Makakilo is less populated compare to other areas in Oahu. If you want to have some privacy, you can consider moving to Makakilo.

All kinds of homes can be found in Makakilo including single-family homes, condominiums and town homes. The single-family homes in Makakilo have 2 – 4 bedrooms. Before buying homes, be sure to make a visit to Makakilo and explore the facilities in the surrounding region.
