Pearl City is located in the city and county of Honolulu on the island of Oahu in the district of Ewa. It is bordered by Aiea to the east and Waipahu to west. Pearl City is five square miles across the coast on the shoreline facing Pearl Harbor.
The early Hawaiians enjoyed the bountifulness of the seafood that exists in the area. When westerners settled in the area they also enjoyed the amount of oysters and the pearls contained within them. This helped King Kamehameha I earn money in the pearl trade to help in uniting the islands into a single community.
Pearl City was also home to cattle agriculture, and was the area of Hawaii that led the rest into the booming sugar industry. This was its primary source of income until WWII when the industry was shut down. This made the area refocus its attention on refining areas for tourism.
