Guide to Visiting Sandy Beach

Sandy Beach is located beneath the Koko Crater. The Koko Crater is about 1,208 feet tall. Koko Crater is the tallest crater located along the shore of Oahu. Many people like to go to Sandy Beach to carry out body boarding activities. However, the beach is also known for the increasingly high ambulance calls. You must be careful when carry out recreational activities at the Sandy Beach because of the dangerous waves. On the west side of the beach, you can find the Halona Blowhole. The slope of the Koko Crater is very steep. The bottom of the beach is steep as well. Because of the steep ocean bottom, you can often see hard breaking waves.

Sandy Beach is often crowded with people. Beginner can surf at the water when the wave is 2 – 4 feet high. If the wave is higher, you should avoid surfing, as you can get hurt. You should obey the warning signs that are posted at the Sandy Beach by the lifeguards from time to time. Since the beach is subject to dangerous waves, it is not suitable for beginners. If you are a beginner surfer, you will be easily overcome by the waves. Advanced surfers will have better capabilities to tackle the wave so they are not likely to get hurt. It is recommended that you stay on the shore and don’t go surfing at the beach if you don’t have good surfing skill.

You don’t have to carry out recreational activities to enjoy your day at the Sandy Beach. You can lay a mat on the shore and bask in the sun. There are a lot of sunshine in the region during the summer season. On the northern side, there is an outer reef. The outer reef is a suitable fishing site. You can bring your fishing gear and sit down to catch fish. On the east side, you will find a large area to carry out kite flying activities. You can reach the Sandy Beach by taking a 20-minute drive from the Waikiki Beach. Sandy Beach is cloudless so there is a maximum exposure to the sun. You should bring sunblock to apply on your skin so that you can be protected from the ultraviolet ray. Nearby the Sandy Beach, there are a few restaurants. If you want to picnic at Sandy Beach, you can go to the restaurant to get some food. You will find a few public restrooms in the nearby location.
