Kamiloiki is a part of Hawaii made of two different areas, the “Heights” and the “Estates”. Originally, the floor of the valley was a productive farming area, producing predominately sweet potatoes; hence the name “Kamiloiki” – it means “little milo tree” in Hawaiian, so we can safely assume that the milo tree once flourished here as well. It’s wood can be seen in a lot of Hawaii’s decorative works of art.
The Estates is made up of 78 smaller houses, with 1,400 or more located at the mountain end of Lunalilo. They were built throughout the 1970s and into the middle of the 80s. Due to their lack of the impressive views Hawaii is famed for, they are modestly priced by today’s standards. A remodelled home came in between $680,000 and $770,000 in 2007, while they were only slightly more in expensive in 2008 with prices ranging from $685,000 to $850,000.
The Kamilo Heights homes rest at the base of the mountain forming the head of Mariners Valley. The 86 homes were all constructed in the 1990s and vary in size from 1,200 square feet to 1,900 square feet. Unlike the Estates houses, most of these have impressive views facing towards the Koko Crater or the Mariners Valley. In 2007 the median price for a home in the Heights ranged from $660,000 to $1,100,000. 2008 only say two home sales in the area, one at $668,800 and the other at $695,000.
