The small community of Moiliili is a close community which frequently has groups and projects happening year round. During the growth of the area Moiliili was home to people from various ethnic backgrounds, and is a combination of restaurants, shops, community services and events reflecting its cultural diversity. This diversity is still evident today, and is boosted by the student population who study at the University of Hawaii in nearby Manoa. The wide range of businesses that call Moiliili home include restaurants of many different cuisines, supermarkets and florists, and also has the Star Market selling groceries, and the Nijiya Market which delivers Asian products, and is generally Japanese based. Neighbourhood activities tend to happen in and around the Moiliili Community Center, and hosts cultural events to bring the people of different ethnic backgrounds together. There are courses and classes held there which are for people of all ages, from young children all the way up to the elderly, and has a particularly popular range of Japanese culture and language classes for kids up to sixth grade standard.
