Tips on Kaena Point State Park in Oahu

Kaena Point State Park is located on the northwest region of Oahu. In the Hawaiian language, Kaena means glowing. The park is located in a remote area so it is not possible to access it via a vehicle. If you want to reach the Kaena, you need to take a hiking trip by following the road located at the north end of Makaha. The park covers an area of 853 acre. It is the habitat of various kinds of seabirds. You can also find many rare native plants at the state park. Many local legends in Oahu have storylines that begin in Kaena Point State Park.

At the Kaena Point State Park, you will find the Kaena Point. Nearby the Kaena Point, there is the Pohaku o Kauai rock. The Pohaku o Kauai rock is located nearby to the Kaena Point. The people call the rock Pohaku o Kauai because of the superstition about what Maui demigod did not unite Oahu and Kauai. According to the local legend, the demigod Maui use the mana I ka lani to lasso the Kauai island in the Kaieie Waho Channel. Mana i ka lani refers to the divine power of heaven. As he tugs the island, a large boulder fell onto the site where Kaena Point is located. This is why the place is called Pohaku o Kauai. The local people also believe that the Kaena Point is the site where souls departed. Ka leina a ka uhne is the exact location for the soul to jump off and leave the world. Some people call the Kaena Point as White Rock. It is occasionally referred as the White Rock because there is a limestone located on the north of the Kaena Point. There is a trail that leads you to Kaena Point. If you want to hike the trail, be sure to bring some drinking water, as the weather is hot.

There are two beaches located near to the Kaena Point Beach. The two beaches that are located near to the Kaena Point Beach are Makua Beach and Yokohama Beach. Tourists at the leeward coast can drive to the end of the road near Yokohama beach to reach Kaena Point. When you are driving towards Kaena Point, you will come to a place where there are many junk cars. The junk cars and other rubbish are abandoned at the base of the cliff so it is not a good sight.
