Oahu's world-renowned North Shore is home to the sleepy town of Waialua, a friendly community with a pleasantly provincial feel. A home to sugar plantations in former times, Waialua is developing new enterprises in the former home of the Waialua Sugar Mill. Due to strong citizen input, the community is attempting to keep the rural nature of the area in place, so it's highly unlikely that the region will become overdeveloped. A historical area, Waialua plays host to the North Shore Surf and Cultural Museum. The Waialua Sugar Mill now features a few restaurants, shops, and services in the old building, and it also provides a home for the Waialua Farmer's Market, allowing locals to meet up with area vendors hawking such wares as flowers, fresh produce, and other regional products.

Waialua's North Shore is a perfect place for any of the popular water sports that are a part of Hawaii's culture. Scuba diving, sailing, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, and, of course, surfing, are all excellent pastimes for Waialua's residents as well as visitors to the area. Locals enjoy visiting the Haleiwa Aii Beach Park as well as the Kaiaka Bay Beach Park for fun in the sun. The Turtle Bay Resort is home to a gorgeous 36-hole golf course that is internationally admired. Students in Waialua attend the Waialua or Haleiwa elementary school, and later move on to the Waialua Intermediate and High School.
