Nuuanu Valley is host to most of the homes in Nuuanu, where abundant rain means that the yard and common areas of the neighborhood are lusciously appointed with year-round tropical flora. Consisting of mostly single-family dwellings, there are a few high rise condos or apartments in Nuuanu Valley; the Pali Highway's presence through the center of Nuuanu allows the citizens there easy access to the Windward part of Oahu. For those who enjoy fitness, the Nuuanu YMCA is a center for such activities as personal training and martial arts as well as a swimming pool and a fitness center. The Roosevelt Complex school corporation services children in Nuuanu Valley, with several elementary schools and the Stevensen and Kawananakoa Middle schools. Students graduate from Roosevelt High School.
